Frequently Asked Questions

Sizing, canvas options, and waste-industry terminology — straight answers from our Louisville team.

Sizing & specifications

Tarps are cut at the actual dimensions you order. The finished size is what you end up with after hemming — for example, 10' × 10' c/s is the same tarp as 9'6" × 9'6" f/s. If you need 8' × 10' f/s, the tarp is cut 8'6" × 10'6" and hemmed down to 8' × 10' f/s. The industry standard is always measured in cut sizes; unless specified otherwise, covers always ship as cut size.

6" total — 3" is taken up per side of the cover.

Finished-size covers use 6" more material than the equivalent cut-size cover.

Canvas tarps

Treated canvas tarp weights come in 10 oz., 12 oz., and 15 oz., in both water-treated and flame-retardant treatments. Standard colors are Olive Drab (flame retardant only) and Olive Drab (water resistant). Also available: blue, green, tan, brown, or white.

  • Canvas weights listed are before treating.
  • Additional charge applies for blue.
  • Colors may bleed. Covers over 20 lbs. should not be hung as curtains.

Waste industry

A landfill site (also known as a tip, dump, or rubbish dump; and, historically, as a midden) is a site for the disposal of solid waste materials by burial. It is the oldest form of waste treatment. Historically, landfills have been the most common method of organized waste disposal and remain so in many places around the world.

MSW means garbage, refuse, and similar solid waste material discarded from residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sources. MSW consists of everyday items such as product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, and more. When buried in a landfill, these materials decompose, producing leachate (garbage juice) and landfill gas. Both must be controlled and monitored to protect public health, safety, and the environment.
